Back like it never left, (it's that time again), a new school year! Are you...and your home ready for all the back-to-school endeavors? The booked calendars, loaded backpacks, array of coats and dirty shoes piling up in the hallways...Help!

Mudroom Zones

What is a mudroom?

It's a small area near the back door or a side door that acts as a 'drop-zone' for items that you need on the way out the door. It's a space to stockpile you daily essentials like shoes, backpacks, bags, etc. It also keeps the dirt and mud from entering your home by leaving shoes, hats and duffle bags here before entering the rest of the home.

These drop-zone are handy areas best utilized to keep the school-day items in a concise area for organization and functional purposes. They keep the grime of the outdoors from spreading into the rest of the home.

A mudroom can be designed in several ways; often seen as with a bench, coat hooks, shelving, or storage compartments. We love to utilize cubbies or baskets designated for each child to help organize all the daily essentials and school supplies.

These fun yet functional spaces are added to a back or side hallway, but ultimately, can be tailored to your home's layout and design needs!

Spots for Schoolwork

Get your desk nooks and study spots ready too. Whether it's for homeschooling or evening homework sessions; it is a good ideas to keep these designated work areas away from TV distractions and main living areas. Try to give them access to a window too, it's actually scientifically proven natural light helps focus and academic performance!

Most importantly, make the work space comfortable and functional for your kiddos. A designer can help with this too! We like to let them have design input into the their work space. Creating an area that they enjoy, increases the chances of them actually doing their homework there.
