Labor Day Weekend is fast approaching and it is the perfect opportunity to sit back, relax, and enjoy all your outdoor living spaces have to offer.

So, what makes a great outdoor living space?

When working with a designer on this phase of your new home or renovation, here is what to consider:

Outdoor Kitchen Design

When creating a great outdoor living area, a good grill or outdoor kitchen area is key. This is often a focal point of the space - where your family or guest can gather for a BBQ or gameday watch party. It is important to consider your goals for this space, and how often you plan to be spending time here. Our designers will ask questions such as: How often will you be cooking in this space? Is it for function only? Or do you want it to be a social setting?

If you want to create space for hosting, it is good to consider the amount of counter space and islands seating you will need for guest too. These aspects will all be discussed when meeting with your interior designer.

Then, think about how you like to cook:

Do you love a blackstone or grill? Want a smoker? Or maybe a built-in pizza oven?

Once we have these essential appliances selected, our team can help to incorporate them into the overall layout and other material selections we gather for the space.

Rest & Lounge Outdoors

A relaxing outdoor living area requires durable outdoor furniture pieces that can withstand the elements of the Houston weather. We make sure to select durable materials and outdoor-rated fabrics (such as Sunbrella, Fabricut, Perennials...to name a few!) for the furniture, rugs, and outdoor pillows of these areas. It is also important to consider how much investment and care you want to put into these exterior pieces, especially in Houston. They will need to be durable, waterproof, or resistant to hold up to the rain, pollen, and dreaded hurricane season.
