Bring the outdoor in

Updated: May 24, 2020

What a glorious week we’ve had here at Houston, are you enjoying the sunning and warm weather as much as we have? We know it’s kind of a bummer that there was only a total of 3 days of Winter this season, but hey, we didn’t choose to live in Texas to be buried in snow, right?

On average, there are 204 sunny days per year in Houston. This piece of factoid brings about this week’s topic: WINDOWS! Do you have windows in your home? What a strange question, of course, you do, we all do! This is why it’s essential to understand how to work with them. We’ve included some photos of our clients’ homes, and how our designers have used the below tips to work with their windows. Enjoy!

Tip 1: Treat large windows as the focal point, frame them with custom drapery

Tip 2: Create a quiet reading area where you can bask in the sun

Tip 3: Leave ample space around the windows, so people can walk about and enjoy the view

Tip 4: Keep furniture at similar height to not disrupt the view

Tip 5: Leave the windows without any treatments, let the view speak for themselves

Tip 6: Place your most interesting furniture around the large window as a focal point

Tip 7: Select the right lighting to enhance the view, not to block it

Tip 8: Align the furniture in line with the windows, this brings cohesiveness
