The Truth About Designing in Texas

The Truth About Designing in Texas

As many of you know By Design Interiors is located in the great state of Texas. Houston to be exact. While we love it here in the South and wouldn’t change it for the world, there are just a few things that only Interior Designers in Texas will understand.

That’s a Pretty Chandelier
– If you were to look at Pinterest and Houzz right now, you would see that the only way to have a complete looking, luxurious master suite is to have a fabulous chandelier in the middle of the room.

Well as designers we LOVE this look, but as southern women, we know you are not going to make it threw a summer night without that ceiling fan over your bed!

Burnt Orange or Maroon – Shades of oranges can be seen everywhere right now! It is one of the next big color trends, but any Texas designer knows that this can cause some trouble! The rivalry between UT and A&M is so passionate that you have to be careful about the color schemes you present to clients!

Cowhide Anyone? – In other areas of the country a cowhide rug might mean that you are a redneck farmer or country music lover, but there in Houston it’s just the norm. Whether you’re a native born Texan or an immigrant from England, everybody wants a cowhide rug!

What is a Season? – Houston, Texas doesn’t have seasons. It’s more like hot, hotter, hottest, OMG I’m going to burn alive hot. This can make things a little tricky when designing. It’s just so hard to get into the Christmas spirit when you are doing it in shorts, but we make it great anyways!

Designing in Texas can lead to some unique challenges, but we wouldn’t change it for the world!
