Accessories- The Jewelry of Your Home

A great way to think about accessorizing your home is to think about how we accessorize our outfits!   After all, accessories really are the jewelry of the home!  Bracelets, scarves, neckties and necklaces give our outfits personality, can be eye catching and really pull a look together. Vases, boxes, candles and objects of interest can give our homes different feels such as warmth and charm or sophistication and spirited luxury depending on our tastes.

There are a few key things to keep in mind when accessorizing your home.  Since accessories really are personal, using or starting a collection of objects that tell a story or that are associated with wonderful memories will fill your home with good feelings. In large collections, it is best to stay with similar hues, similar sizes or a theme to keep it visually uncluttered.

When placing accessories on a table, try using an odd number of objects layered together. Connecting and overlapping these items with larger pieces such as lamps, mirrors or art make a space visually pleasing and give the feeling of connectedness.

Placing similar items on an elegant tray can also achieve this cohesive look.   Remember to leave a little breathing room between clusters of accessories so that your eye is not overwhelmed!

Also, vary the height of objects for a more interesting and balanced look.  You can give small objects a lift by placing books, boxes or these gorgeous and unique pedestals underneath them!

A fun way to keep things fresh in your home is to move your accessories around between rooms.  Using accessories in unexpected ways can add a great deal of interest and personality to a space! Try placing a landscape photograph on a kitchen counter or a sculptural element in a master bathroom.  Most of all, have fun with your home’s “jewelry”!!
